Our Guide To Choosing The Right Pillows

Did you know that sleeping on the wrong pillows is one of the most common causes for getting a poor night’s sleep? Our bodies need to be properly supported when we sleep and it’s our pillows which help to ensure we’re sleeping in the right position. Choose the wrong pillow and you’ll struggle to get comfortable, however hard you try, however choose the right one and you’ll sleep right through, waking up feeling fresh as a daisy in the morning!

How Do You Sleep?

 

First things first, it’s important that you know how you sleep as this is generally the main consideration when choosing the best pillow for you. Are you a side sleeper, a back sleeper or a front sleeper? As a general rule:

 

If you sleep on your front: Your best bet is to choose a softer pillow such as a down one or low-fill synthetic one.

 

If you sleep on your back: You’ll likely be most comfortable choosing a medium thickness pillow such as a high-fill down one, orthopaedic memory foam one or medium-fill synthetic one.

 

If you sleep on your side: We’d suggest that you choose a medium-high thickness pillow such as a high-fill down one, memory foam pillow or medium-high fill synthetic one.

 

This is, as far as we’re concerned, the most important decision to make when choosing your pillow as without the right support, you’ll struggle to get comfortable.

 

Do You Suffer From Allergies?

 

If you suffer from allergies, your best bet is to stay away from natural-filled pillows such as down and feather. Whilst you’ll find that these are now almost always treated to ensure they don’t prevent allergies, if you know that you suffer, it’s best advised that you stay away and choose a synthetic pillow.
